Statement Of Prosecutor General, Interior and National Security Ministries of The Azerbaijan Republic

At about 21.00 pm on March 2, 2005, Elmar Huseynov, 1967, editor-in-chief of the magazine “Monitor”, was deadly shot at his apartment located in Gara Garayev Street, 33, the Nizami district of Baku. 

Officials of the Prosecutor General and Interior Ministry of the Republic, as well as other law-enforcement bodies have immediately come to the place of incident.

Investigation to the case was launched on the Articles 120.2.4 and 228 of the Criminal Code of the Azerbaijan Republic (intentional murder, keeping and bearing of arms), and was set up a special operational-investigation group comprising experienced law-enforcers of the Prosecutor General, Interior and National Security Ministries. Also was appointed judicial-medical, judicial-ballistic and other experts to take immediate measures for swift investigation. A pistol of PSM model with silencer used in the murder was found in the place of incident for a distance 150 meters.

In the operational meeting with participation of law-enforcers held at the police station in Nizami district of Baku, the investigation group has reported to Ministry of Interior and prosecutor general on the primary results and was given certain recommendations to study all suggestions in the case. 

Prosecutor General, Interior and National Security Ministries of the Republic states that irrespective of the reasons, the attempts to use murder of Elmar Huseynov for numerous political intentions, including for destabilization of socio-political situation and cause confrontation in the country are decisively unacceptable.

The Head of State was informed on this heavy crime and he has made certain instructions to swiftly reveal the murder and strengthen control over the investigation.

Investigation is under special control.

The public will be informed on results of the murder of Elmar Huseynov.
