On July 30, Minister of Internal Affairs, Colonel-General Vilayat Eyvazov received a delegation headed by Fadli Zon, the Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian People’s Representative Council, which is on a visit to our country.

Welcoming the guests, the Minister noted that Azerbaijan and our nation attach great importance to the development of relations with the Republic of Indonesia, the world's largest Muslim state, which have a significant impact on the ancient history, culture and global processes, and its people. He expressed his gratitude for the important support in the process of fair settlement of our most painful problem, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, in accordance with the principles of international law and territorial integrity and sovereignty of our republic, having recalled that this country was always defending the just cause of Azerbaijan.
 Then, the Minister shared brief information about the problems we faced in the first years of independence, the environment of chaos, anarchy, impunity, at the same time, the occupation of 20 percent of our lands and more than 1 million of our compatriots expelled from their native lands as a result of Armenia's military intervention. It was stressed that a wise policy of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev who returned to power on insistence of the Azerbaijani people, intensive and effective activities carried out in law enforcement including the Internal Affairs bodies have restored order and peace and regain control over the crime situation in the country. The efforts made to ensure stability and tranquility created favorable conditions for the continuous development of the country's economy. It was noted that foreigners working in our country including Indonesian citizens enjoy such safe conditions.

Mr. Eyvazov then provided details of the structure and functional duties of the MIA as well as of the reforms and innovations implemented in all spheres of public life including the internal affairs bodies. Having stressed that the strategic course of the Great Leader and an active law enforcement policy were successfully continued and developed by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the Minister of Internal Affairs noted that the protection of human rights and freedoms and the factor of citizens’ satisfaction are based on operational and service activity. He stressed that the state-of-the-art information technologies, especially the MIA's “Safe City”, “102 call Service” centers and other modern technological means are widely used in this work for the purpose of taking urgent operational measures against illegal actions of citizens.

Touching upon the problems, the Minister noted that combating the main types of transnational organized crime, especially drug trafficking, is in the focus of attention and stressed the need to unite efforts of the international community in the effective fight against dangerous crimes of such a global nature.

Having expressed gratitude for hearty reception and detailed information, Fadli Zon noted that during the first visit to our republic the delegation members have enjoyed the image of Azerbaijan as a rapidly developing, dynamic, modern and safe country, and emphasized that our states and peoples have common and similar features being the places of ancient history and civilizations. Mr. F.Zon expressed his confidence that mutual visits, extensive communication and regular contacts would provide the impetus for the further development of bilateral relations and the parliaments would make their contribution to this cooperation. The guest also stated that they would spare no efforts to promote achievement of a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
A number of other items of mutual interest were also discussed in the atmosphere of sincerity and friendship during the meeting.
