01.05.2015

The panel conference devoted to the 70th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) was held in the Police Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

First, participants of the conference visited the monument of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the courtyard of the Police Academy and placed a wreath.

After the demonstration of a documentary film about the Great Patriotic War, Head of the Police Academy Police General Major Nazim Aliyev
opened the conference. He brought to the notice of the participants that the Azerbaijani people made a substantial contribution to achieving victory over fascism, 600 thousand compatriots participated in this war in the frontline, divisions formed in Azerbaijan travelled the glorious path from the Caucasus to Berlin, thousands of Azerbaijanis took part in partisan units, about half of our compatriots died an honorable death, over 170 thousand were decorated with various orders and medals and 130 persons were awarded an honorary title of the Hero of the Soviet Union.
Mr Aliyev emphasized that Baku oil also played a crucial part in achieving Victory. During the war, Azerbaijani oil made up 3/4 of total oil production in the Soviet Union, and 85-90% of aviation gasoline and high-quality lubricants fell to the share of Azerbaijan.

National Leader Heydar Aliyev said about selflessness our people demonstrated in achieving Victory in the war of 1941-1945, heroism and courage of our compatriots both in the frontline and on the home front: “The special role of Azerbaijan in achieving this Victory is that oil of the Azerbaijan Republic was one of the key factors necessary for successful fighting at that time. During the war, 70% of oil produced in the Soviet Union fell to the share of Azerbaijani oil. Such huge oil volumes were produced in the result of heavy selfless labour of our oilmen. Certainly, it can readily be understood that the war of motors, the war of military equipment wouldn’t be so successful without Azerbaijani oil… High-quality gasoline, kerosene and other oil products were invented by Azerbaijani scientists and produced in our republic in those years…” That’s why heroic deeds of Azerbaijani people who travelled the path of glory during the World War II will always remain memorable with their bravery in the frontline and selfless labour on the home front, and will serve as an example for the younger generation.
Next a combatant of the World War II, veteran of the internal affairs bodies Mehdi Mehdiyev shared his memories about battles and the path of his life with the participants.

Social Sciences faculty instructors of the Police Academy Rashad Gasimov and Rahim Majnunov delivered reports on the ‘Azerbaijani internal affairs bodies during the World War II and Great Patriotic Was 1941-1945’, and General Inspector of the MIA Department in Charge for Personnel Yalchin Garayev delivered a report on ‘Glorious History of the Nation’.
It was mentioned again, that Victory over fascism is a source of pride and memorable history for the Azerbaijani people and we should learn much from it. Heroism of our people during the World War II, courage of our sons and daughters are of particular importance now when our territories are occupied and encourage us to release our lands and to restore sovereignty and territorial integrity of our republic. In this context, the Chronicles of heroism and courage demonstrated by our people in achieving historical Victory in the War of 1941-1945 is a real lesson and model for the younger generation.
