PRESS RELEASE BY THE PRESS SERVICE OF THE MINISTRY OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS
11.09.2014September 11 - Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Colonel General Ramil Usubov received OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Baku Mr. Alexis Chahtahtinsky.
The Minister of Internal Affairs wished the guest every success in his activity and commented with appreciation development of the relations between OSCE and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It was noted that close relations were established with the Office of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, Baku Office and missions in a number of countries for the purpose of security assurance in our republic, protection of human rights and freedoms and public order as well as for the more effective prevention of transnational organized crime, and as a result, a lot of significant measures and projects were carried out in the field of police activity improvement.
The Minister also emphasized that over 2000 employees of the Ministry took part in various workshops and training organized by OSCE and conducted in the republic and abroad. Efforts are made to apply accumulated experience in practical activities.
Further, the Minister of Internal Affairs gave brief information on the criminal situation in the country and mentioned the way of development Azerbaijan has passed under stable and safety conditions created under the guidance of National Leader and President of the country, the essential regulatory and legal framework developed for the purpose of bringing the police activity into compliance with international standards with due regard to opinion of experts of a number of authoritative international organizations including OSCE and implemented reforms.
Having made special mention of the great role of new adopted laws as well as workshops and training conducted with the support of OSCE in the professional advancement and personal enrichment of the staff and bringing the official activities into compliance with international standards, Mr.Usubov called attention to strict control the Ministry of Internal Affairs maintains over the legitimacy and protection of civil rights and freedoms.
OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Baku Mr. Alexis Chahtahtinsky expressed his appreciation for cordial welcome and detailed information, and emphasized that he will give further support to the implementation of various projects connected with practical effect and efficiency of the cooperation between OSCE and the Ministry of Internal Affairs in all spheres, further development of such cooperation and improvement of police activities.
