March 10 – Minister of Internal Affairs of the Azerbaijan Republic Colonel General Ramil Usubov received Mr. George Leuka, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Moldova to Azerbaijan.

 The Minister welcomed the guest, wished success in his diplomatic activity in our country and voiced hope of further development of the Azerbaijan-Moldova relations in the result of such meetings.
The Minister mentioned friendly relations between our peoples and reminded that Moldova was one of the states which first recognized Azerbaijan’s independence. He noted that in recent years cooperation in all spheres between our republics has been extended, emphasized the invaluable role of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev in building these relations and mentioned that the political will of the heads of our states and their mutual visits promoted further development of bilateral relations.

Having noted that both countries suffer from separatism and terrorism, the Minister noted that our states take a unified position in respect of solving global problems, especially settlement of the conflicts which resulted in violation of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the states and support each other.

Having stated that close business relations between the relevant structures of our countries established in the Soviet period and developed in the independence period achieved the level which provides joint crime prevention, the Minister noted that the Agreement on Cooperation was signed on February 17, 1994 between the Ministries of Internal Affairs, joint cooperation both in the bilateral and multilateral format within the scope of the International Criminal Police (Interpol), Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) and GUAM successfully advances, and Azerbaijan is interested in adoption of best practices and exchange of essential information.

Participants of the meeting emphasized the importance of joint efforts in effective prevention of main types of transnational organized crime like illegal drug trafficking, international terrorism, trafficking in human beings, and illegal migration.
Ambassador George Leuka expressed his gratitude for the reception and detailed information and stated that he will make every effort to further strengthen bilateral relations between our countries.
