September 21 - Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Colonel General Ramil Usubov received the delegation headed by State Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Belarus Stanislav Zas staying on an official visit in our country.

 Having welcomed the guests, the Minister emphasized the high level of relations between our states and noted that friendly relations between President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and bilateral cooperation between our states have risen to the whole new level. Mr. Usubov also expressed content with the successful continuation of the political dialogue between our countries.

Further, the Minister provided brief information about MIA’s key functions and areas of activity, the current crime and sociopolitical situation in our country during the first years of independence. It was noted that only after the return of National Leader Heydar Aliyev to supreme power on the insistence of the Azerbaijani people, drastic reforms were carried out under his leadership in all spheres, stability and public order were restored, and the criminal situation was taken under control.

Touching upon existing challenges, Mr. Usubov emphasized that the main types of transnational organized crime like terrorism and illegal drug trafficking are always in the focus of attention and can be prevented effectively only by joint efforts.

Having emphasized special attention given to close cooperation with Belarus in law enforcement activities, Ramil Usubov also made a point of close interaction maintained with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the fraternal country and expressed his confidence that this visit would promote further development of these relations. At the same time, the Minister mentioned successful development of cooperation between the Internal Troops of the Ministries of Internal Affairs of both states and certain positive results achieved in this area.

Having expressed his gratitude for hospitable reception, Stanislav Zas commented with appreciation the extensive improvement, large-scale construction works and development carried out in Azerbaijan during its independence period that have changed entirely the Baku’s image.
The parties also discussed other matters of concern in the friendly and frank atmosphere of the meeting.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus in Azerbaijan Mr. Gennady Akhramovich took part in the meeting.
